Incident Summary:

On November 26th, 2017 the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and EMS staff responded to the Rice Lake Dam boat landing for the report of a snowmobile that had gone through the ice. Lindholm, who was operating the snowmobile, was able to jump from of the snowmobile before it sunk and was uninjured. Lindholm was unable to safely make it back to shore due to ice conditions. The St. Louis County Rescue Squad responded and was able to use an air boat to rescue Lindholm who was about 1.5 miles from shore.

The snowmobile went through a pressure ridge in the ice that stretches across the entire lake. This section of the lake has several spots of open water and ice that is less than 1 inch thick. The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office urges people to use extreme caution when venturing out on the ice, as most area lakes still have unsafe and unpredictable ice conditions due to recent warm weather.
