Incident Summary:
On November 20, 2017, at approximately 7:42 P.M., the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and Ely Police Department were dispatched to the Ely Hospital on a report of a 15 year old female juvenile who had been threatened with a knife and sexually assaulted by an adult acquaintance. The acquaintance was identified as David Alan Nielsen, 34, from Ely, MN.
On November 21, 2017 at approximately 11:17 A.M., St. Louis County Sheriff's deputies, along with officers from the Ely Police Department located and arrested Nielsen at a residence in the 400 block on North 11th Avenue East, Ely, MN. Nielsen was arrested and booked into the St. Louis County Jail in Virginia, MN on one count of 1st Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct. This incident is still under investigation and additional charges are pending.
