New map options available for ATV riders in St. Louis County

St. Louis County has new map options available to make it easier for ATV operators to know where they can legally drive on roads and trails.

The County Land Explorer now includes a 'recreation theme' highlighting authorized ATV routes, including county roads, state trails, and Forest Service roads and trails. The Land Explorer can be found online at stlouiscountymn.gov/explorer, as well as through the free mobile app "Explorer for ArcGIS by Esri". The mobile app version of the County Land Explorer is available for anyone with an iOS (Apple) or Android smart phone or tablet.

"It's exciting to see the variety of ways we can apply the County's GIS data to help our residents and visitors," said Commissioner Pete Stauber who chairs the county's Executive ATV Steering Committee. "We have had a great response from ATV operators who appreciate the expanded opportunities to safely ride in St. Louis County, and this is just one more way to highlight safe ATV routes."

Additionally, a PDF version of the map can be viewed and downloaded at stlouiscountymn.gov/atv. This page also includes other information about the County's ATV ordinance, which was adopted in the spring of 2016.

The County Land Explorer is an interactive web mapping application that brings together land record data from multiple county departments. County staff continue to find ways to add relevant information for a variety of uses. Coming soon on the recreation theme will be an addition of forest roads and trails managed by the County Land and Minerals Department that are open for ATV use.
