Incident Summary:
On August 11, 2017, at approx. 1:17 PM the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office received a report of human remains being found in a remote wooded area of Unorganized Township 68-21, which is Southwest of Lake Kabetogama. The remains were found by a wildlife technician doing research in the area. Deputies responded and upon initial investigation discovered severely decomposed human remains that appeared to be that of an adult male.
Follow-up investigation and evidence located at the scene leads the Sheriff's Office to believe the remains are that of an adult male who was previously reported missing to another Minnesota Law Enforcement agency in May 2017.
Foul play is not suspected at this time. The remains have been sent to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office where an autopsy was to be completed to determine cause of death and establish positive identification. These results are pending at this time. The incident remains under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and an updated release will be issued when additional information becomes available.
