County seeks public input on new Comprehensive Land Use Plan

St. Louis County is developing a new Comprehensive Land Use Plan that will provide the blueprint for land use development and change through 2035. The county currently has adopted land use plans for most areas where the county has land use authority. However, these plans were originally adopted in the late 1970s and early 1980s. There have been various updates to the plans over the years, but they remain cumbersome, outdated and in many cases obsolete.

The public is invited to learn more about existing land use conditions and to provide insight on issues of concern and opportunities for the future at a series of public workshops, which have been scheduled throughout the county. The workshops are being conducted by St. Louis County with assistance from SRF Consulting Group.

Monday, August 21, 4 to 8 p.m.

County Public Works Building, 7823 Highway 135, Virginia

Tuesday, August 22, 1 to 7 p.m.

County Public Works Building, 2210 E Sheridan St., Suite 2, Ely

Wednesday, August 23, 1 to 7 p.m.

American Legion, 4543 Highway 53, Orr

Thursday, August 24, 1 to 7 p.m.

Richard H. Hansen Public Works and Transportation Complex, 4787 Midway Rd., Pike Lake

The plan will provide a vision and road map for the county’s future policy decisions on land use, public investment, infrastructure improvements and intergovernmental cooperation, all with the goal of fostering a vibrant and healthy county. The plan will be developed with substantial participation from residents, local government officials and a broad range of other stakeholders.
