Cotton community celebrates National Night Out for first time

What does a Life Link helicopter, a Sheriff's Office K-9 and a free community barbecue all have in common? They'll all be part of the first ever National Night Out celebration in Cotton.

People in the town of Cotton have been coming together for years for an annual celebration of their community. But this year they will join together for the first time for National Night Out on Tuesday August 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the old Cotton school, 9165 Highway 53 in Cotton. Cotton residents and non-residents alike are welcome to attend this free event hosted by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and The Old School Lives.

The Sheriff's Office will be bringing a K-9 team and members of the Volunteer Rescue Squad. a Life Link III helicopter will do a special landing between 5 and 6 p.m. (weather permitting, and assuming no emergency calls) with additional presentations. Local EMS and other agencies have also been invited.

Besides the free meal, there will be drawings for prizes for both adults and kids. People also can explore the old school building and see the many opportunities that The Old School Lives now offers.

National Night Out is an annual celebration on the first Tuesday in August held by neighborhoods across the country. The event strives to promote community and strengthen relationships between citizens and their city’s public safety departments.

Along with co-hosting the National Night out, Old School Lives is kicking off its annual Cotton Days which will have events throughout the week.  For more information on Cotton Days contact Old School Lives on Facebook, oldschoollives.com, or call (218) 482-3005.
