4th Street construction update: 6th-14th Avenues East to reopen Friday
Construction to rebuild 4th Street in Duluth has reached a significant milestone. Eight blocks, from 6th to 14th Avenues east, which includes the business district along this roadway, will re-open by Friday morning, June 30.
Portions of 4th Street have been closed for portions of the last two construction seasons as the County rebuilt the road, and the City of Duluth replaced the utilities beneath it.
Crews are striping the street today. Additional finishing work will continue after the road re-opens, and motorists are reminded to use caution when traveling in and near a work zone.
"To all of these business owners, and their customers, as well as for others who live along this road or use it for their daily travels, we thank you for your patience through this long process," said County Board Chair Frank Jewell. "We're excited they can now resume more normal operations, and are happy to give them a beautiful and smooth new roadway and underlying utilities that should last for many years."
Farther east on 4th Street, between 14th and 19th Avenues East remains closed, and beginning next week 21st to 23rd Avenues East will close as construction continues to rebuild those portions.
