Incident Summary:
The St. Louis County Sheriff's office and St. Louis County Rescue Squad received a report of an missing/overdue boater from the Vermilion Dam Lodge. Staff at the lodge indicated that a male guest had left the resort in a resort owned rental boat at approximately 0830 AM and had not returned. Staff at the lodge had attempted to look for the male party but had not located him. A water search has commenced over night with the assistance of local fire and rescue agencies. As of the time of this press release the search is still ongoing and information in regards to the search will be updated as they become available. The boat is a Vermilion Dam Lodge boat, grey in color, 17ft long and a 50 hp tiller motor with a distinct lodge identification wrap covering the boat. If anyone should see or have information about this party or boat they are urged to call 911.

Frank Achter was found safe and in good health on Hoyt Island on Lake Vermilion at approximately 0715 AM. He had experienced boat troubles earlier the prior day and was able to make it to the island. He sought shelter in a cabin on the island until his boat was discovered by St. Louis County Rescue Squad members. Achter was taken by boat to Moccasin Point and transported to Cook Hospital via Tower Ambulance as a precautionary measure and medical evaluation.
