Incident Summary:

On June 15th, 2017 at around 3 PM, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to the Angleworm Lake area off of the Echo Trail for an adult male who had accidentally shot himself while camping.  The subject was camping along Angleworm Lake when he went to take a nap in his tent.  He went to remove a loaded 9mm handgun from a holster near the small of his back when he accidentally fired off one round into his buttocks.  The subject walked out towards his vehicle when he was found by two other hikers who assisted him to the parking area.  Ely Ambulance transported the subject to the Ely Community Hospital where he was treated for the gunshot wound.  The subject sustained a non life threatening injury.  The incident remains under investigation at this time.
