Incident Summary:
On June 10, 2017, at approximately 11:08 AM the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a boat accident with minor injuries in front of the Babbitt Beach on Birch Lake in the city limits of Babbitt, MN. Several boats were in the area and participating in a "Shotgun Start" fishing contest on Birch Lake at the time of the accident. Both boats were underway at the time of the accident. The front of McKay's vessel collided with the transom of Goedderz's vessel causing minor damage to both boats. A passenger in John Goedderz's boat, Terrie Goedderz, sustained non-life threatening injuries in the collision and was transported by a private vehicle to the Ely Hospital for treatment. Daniel McKay reported his vision was obstructed by a passenger in his boat and he didn't see John Goedderz boat in front of him. Alcohol and speed were not contributing factors. The Babbitt Police Department assisted in the investigation.
