Four IRYA students recognized for outstanding service work

Four recently graduated seniors from two Iron Range Schools were recognized for their community service, dedication and leadership with St. Louis County’s Iron Range Youth in Action (IRYA) program. Among those being honored are: Andrew Dale and Dylan Leff of Mountain Iron-Buhl High School, and Aly Kingsley and Marissa Peterson of Virginia High School. Each received a $200 scholarship and a certificate of appreciation from the Partners Advisory Board.

The students have been active participants since ninth grade, served as role models and leaders for the program and contributed many hours towards community services on the Iron Range and throughout the state. The students were selected by county program coordinators based on their active roles and level of participation with the program.

During the special recognition event held at the Mesabi Station in Eveleth last month, the students shared their future education plans with the board  and county staff. When asked which projects were their favorite, all agreed that the annual youth conference and the summer educational trip were their top choices.

Four other students received certificates in recognition of their service: Michael Sullivan from Hibbing High School, Dieu Do and Monica Ridlon from Virginia High School, and Melanie Udovich from Cherry High School.

IRYA promotes positive youth development and public service values for students in grades 9-12, and encourages Iron Range youth to better engage with their communities. To learn more or find out how to get involved, visit IRYA.org.

The Partners Advisory Board includes locally elected officials from Northern St. Louis County uniting and acting with youth to influence public policy, to support and promote the positive development of high school students, to encourage young leaders, and build healthy communities for these citizens of the 21st century.
