Incident Summary:
On May 28th 2017 at approximately 5:02 hours, Deputies from the St. Louis County Sheriff's office attempted to arrest a 48 year old male in the Cherry Township area, on charges stemming from a domestic assault which had occurred the previous evening in the McKinley area. The male fled from Deputies in a vehicle and led officers from several agencies on a high speed pursuit on Hwy 37, and south on Hwy 53.
On several occasions during the chase, the suspect waved a long gun out the drivers side window and eventually threw it out on the highway. The rifle has been recovered.
Near the area of Hwy 53 and Hwy 33, Deputies performed a PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) to stop the suspect before any civilians could get hurt. The suspect was uninjured, however taken to St. Lukes Hospital for evaluation before being booked into the St. Louis County Jail in Duluth.
