Construction begins May 22 to replace Highway 5 bridge over Bear River
Construction to build a new bridge on County State Aid Highway 5 over the Bear River is scheduled to start on Monday, May 22. As a result, Highway 5 will be closed between North Airport Road and Highway 22. Detours will be marked.
The project is a $2 million investment, paid for with federal funds, to replace a structurally deficient bridge built back in 1934. Work on the new bridge, and the road closure, is expected to last until mid-November. Lunda Construction is the contractor for the project.
The new bridge is part of a major improvement to Highway 5 in the
Linden Grove area. The new bridge will be significantly longer than the
existing structure to help address safety concerns with the current crossing
along with helping address the unstable soils that are prevalent in the area.

The bridge on Highway 5 crossing the Bear River was built in 1934, and is now deemed structurally deficient and at the end of its serviceable life. Construction to replace the bridge begins Monday, May 22.
A new, longer bridge will be built to replace this 83-year-old bridge spanning the Bear River on Highway 5 west of Linden Grove Township. Construction begins Monday, and detours will be posted.
