Incident Summary:
On March 5th 2017, St. Louis County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of a 2 car personal injury accident at the intersection of Midway Road and Stark Road in Midway Township. The accident caused a temporary closure to Midway Road while responders treated the occupants of both vehicles.
As a result of the accident,t a 74 year old Duluth man was transported to St. Lukes Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and is in stable condition.
The juvenile occupants of the second vehicle involved, both sustained non-life threatening injuries. One of the juvenile females was transported to Essentia Health by Gold Cross Ambulance and the other was transported by a private party after being checked on at the scene. Both juvenile females were treated and released.
After speaking with a number of witnesses to the accident, it was determined that the juvenile females were traveling west on Stark Road and failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection of Midway Road. The juveniles struck a single vehicle which forced that vehicle off the roadway and into the ditch. The truck the juveniles were in also overturned as a result of the impact. Both vehicles involved, sustained heavy damage.
It is believed that all occupants were wearing their seatbelts and along with that, the airbag deployment in the vehicles also prevented further injury to the occupants.
It is believed that driver inexperience is a contributing factor in the accident. The accident remains under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office urges safe and responsible driving while operating any motorized vehicle.
