Incident Summary:
On 1/13/2017 at approximately 0831 hours, the
St. Louis County Sheriff's Office received a report of a structure fire at 5747
Mesabi Avenue in Mt. Iron, MN. Once on scene, the deputy noticed that the
home was fully engulfed. Both males managed to escape the
residence. The female was later found deceased inside the
residence. Both males were transported to Virginia Regional Medical
Center and then transferred to Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth
for their injuries. Their status is currently unknown. The residence was
completed destroyed. The cause of the fire is currently under
investigation, but is not expected to be criminal in nature.

Additional Information or Update:
The female who died in the fire has been identified as Ginnie L. Hanka, 57, from Mt. Iron, MN. Her husband has been identified as David M. Hanka, 61, from Mt. Iron. He is currently in critical but stable condition at Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital Burn Unit. Their son, David M. Hanka Jr., 25, is also at Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital Burn Unit in serious but stable condition. Both are expected to recover from their injuries. The cause of the fire is currently still under investigation.
