Commissioner Frank Jewell chosen as 2017 County Board Chair

St. Louis County commissioners today selected Commissioner Frank Jewell to serve as County Board Chair for 2017. Commissioner Keith Nelson was selected Vice Chair.


Jewell is currently in his second term as a commissioner, having served since 2011. He represents the First District, which includes the center of Duluth from Park Point to the mall area to the airport.

 

Following the vote, Commissioner Jewell told the Board, "I look forward to this coming year and working with all of you to see that we provide to our citizens the very best county services that we can."


Jewell then assigned commissioners to chair the following standing committees of the Board:

 

Finance and Budget – Keith Nelson

Health and Human Services – Patrick Boyle

Environment and Natural Resources – Tom Rukavina

Public Works and Transportation – Pete Stauber

Central Management and Intergovernmental – Mike Jugovich

Public Safety and Corrections – Beth Olson

 

Commissioners also approved their meeting schedule for 2017. Consistent with the Board’s

ongoing efforts to provide easier access to meetings for all citizens of St. Louis County, at least

one meeting each month will be held in locations around the county, outside of Duluth. The 2017 schedule can be found online at stlouiscountymn.gov/boardschedule.

Mike Jugovich (right) was sworn in Monday night as commissioner for the seventh district. Fellow Commissioner Keith Nelson administered the oath of office inside Chisholm City Hall.

Commissioner Pete Stauber placed his hand on a bible held by wife, Jodi, as he took the oath to serve a second term as commissioner for the fifth district. His cousin, Minnesota Appellate Judge Larry Stauber, conducted the swearing in ceremony, which was held Tuesday morning in front of an 11th grade American Government class at Proctor High School.

With his wife, Jennifer, looking on, Commissioner Patrick Boyle (center) was sworn in Tuesday to continue serving the second district. County Attorney Mark Rubin administered the oath of office.
