Incident Summary:
On 10-30-16 at approximately 12:54 A.M., the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office received a report of an underage drinking party taking place at an area near the intersection of Hwy 5 and Hwy 84. The party site was eventually located on property owned by Hibbing Taconite (in the city limits of rural Hibbing) which could only be accessed through private property. Nearly 40 citations were issued by deputies for varying offenses including driving while intoxicated, underage drinking and driving, illegal consumption, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
While deputies were investigating the party complaint, 911 dispatchers received a call stating three juveniles that had left the party site on foot said they were lost, cold, and wet. The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office Volunteer Rescue Squad was called out to assist in locating the lost individuals. Shortly after 8:00 A.M., the three individuals were located by Rescue Squad search teams and transported to UMCM-Fairview in Hibbing by Chisholm ambulance.
Per Minnesota state statute 121A.28, the Sheriff's Office is in the process of notifying the local schools of the event, for any sanctions that may apply for school related activates.
