Garden Fest 2016 to highlight growing, cooking and storing carrots
Growing, cooking, storing
and – the best part – eating garden carrots: All are on the agenda for Colorful Carrots - Garden Fest 2016. The annual fall program is Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 5:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence Church in Duluth. It is presented by the St. Louis County Extension Service and St. Louis County Master Gardeners.
With this year’s featured vegetable being the carrot, the program will include Dave Sullivan, Executive Chef at the Rustic Inn Cafe in Castle Danger offering techniques for cooking carrots; and Bob Olen, St. Louis County Horticulturist, providing advice on growing carrots in the Northland. There will also be a carrot dessert contest judged by local media personalities Pam Fish, Pat Kelley and John Gilbert, and St. Louis County Commissioners Pete Stauber and Frank Jewell. Contest entries must be pre-registered by contacting County Extension at (218) 733-2870 or (218) 733-2871. The number of entries may be limited. The evening will conclude with an awards ceremony for contest winners, followed by a sampler of carrot dishes prepared by the St. Louis County Master Gardeners.
All of the carrot recipes and growing information is included in a GardenFest Recipe and Resource book that will be given to attendees. The cost to participate is $25.
Check-in for the evening begins at 5 p.m. St. Lawrence Church is located at 2410 Morris Thomas Rd. in Piedmont Heights. To learn more about the program or registration details, contact St. Louis County Extension at (218) 733-2870 or (218) 733-2871, or visit stlouiscountymn.gov/ext.
