Incident Summary:  On 08/05/2016 at 07:36 hours, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting and hostage complaint at a residence in the 4200 block of West Calvary Road in the City of Rice Lake.  Deputies were able to contact the homeowner and then two juvenile occupants at the residence.  All were unaware of the emergency call.  A search of the property and questioning of the occupants revealed the complaint was unfounded. 

This type of prank call is referred to as "swatting."  Typically, the caller's intent is to elicit a police S.W.A.T. or tactical response to a high risk situation.  This incident is one of several in recent months received at the St. Louis County Communications Center (911).

The incident is currently being investigated by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.  Anybody with information regarding the caller, origin of the call, or other details is encouraged to contact the Sheriff's Office Investigations Division at (218)336-4350.
