St. Louis County working to update two land use ordinances
The St. Louis County Planning Commission has been reviewing two key land use ordinances and is recommending some updates to ensure the rules are as current and consistent as possible. The recommended updates are to Subdivision Ordinance 60, which was last updated in 2013; and to Zoning Ordinance 62, which was adopted last year.
The only significant change being proposed for the Subdivision Ordinance has to do with septic system requirements, so that the requirements are consistent with the County's Subsurface Sewage Treatment System Ordinance.
Proposed revisions to the Zoning Ordinance focus largely on language clarifications, but also make changes to boathouse standards, as well as rules for replacing small structures on non-conforming lots.
The proposed updates to the ordinances, along with a comment form, can be found online at stlouiscountymn.gov/zoningordinance. The public is invited to give written feedback either through the website, by email to bourbonaisj@stlouiscountymn.gov or by mail to St. Louis County Planning, c/o Jennifer Bourbonais, Northland Office Center, 307 South 1st Street, Suite 117, Virginia, Minnesota 55792. Comments must be received by August 1 in order to be considered by the Planning Commission.
People also may provide input in person during a public hearing, which has been set for August 11 at 9 a.m. during the Planning Commission's regular meeting in the Northland Office Building in Virginia. For more information, visit stlouiscountymn.gov/zoningordinance or call 218-749-7103.
