Incident Summary:
At 1330 today, St. Louis County Deputies responded to a water emergency along the Cloquet River in Industrial Township north of Hwy 2. The reporting party stated his kayaking partner had capsized, causing her kayak to fill with water. The female was able to stand on a rock but the water was moving to fast to safely get to shore.
The pair of kayakers were assisted by two other passing kayakers prior to first responders reaching them. The assisting kayakers were able to empty out the kayak and get the kayakers safely to shore. The kayakers were unsure of their location along the river, but were located after the St. Louis County Rescue Squad launched boats north and south of their location, eventually locating the kayakers and transporting the female kayaker to the Hwy 2 public access, where the Cloquet Ambulance was staged to check on them.
The kayakers denied the need for medical attention. All of the kayakers were wearing life jackets. The Sheriff's Office would like to remind the public to plan your route accordingly, be aware of your location, and do not take unnecessary risks that are beyond your skill level when it comes to outdoor recreation.
