City kicks off 2024 with equity assessment
How do you set goals without understanding the context for a project? You establish a baseline. Last month, the city received its results from the 2023 Racial Equity Dividends Index (REDI), establishing a baseline for internal equity work moving forward.
“The results shows that our city is making progress towards becoming more equitable,” acknowledged Brittany Bartlett, Equity Coordinator. “I’m impressed with our staff’s dedication to this work and the high scoring programs and initiatives that were recognized during this process.”
The REDI, designed by the Center for Economic Inclusion (CEI), supports local governments in their efforts to build racially equitable workplaces and communities. This voluntary, 67-question evaluation was completed by staff during the summer of 2023. More than 20 other cities and counties from Minnesota also participated.

Richfield homeowners can get a home energy audit for a discounted price - it’s true! Thanks to our partnership with the Home Energy Squad (HES), many of your neighbors have already been reaping the benefits of having an HES visit.
"The most beneficial part was the advice on my basement insulation. They also notified me of a water heater venting issue, even though it is less than a year old. They assisted me with programming the thermostat and they also replaced my old light bulbs! That alone paid for the visit." - Linda, Richfield
When you sign up for an HES visit, a crew will come out to your house to inspect your insulation levels, heating and cooling systems, install free energy-savings materials (LED light bulbs, high efficiency shower heads, smart thermostats, and more!), and provide you with a customized report that explains energy-efficient improvements you can make and connects you to resources that will help you make these improvements. City Code 101: Yard Parking
Did you know parking a motor vehicle in the yard of any property within the city, except in an established driveway area, is a violation of city code? It’s also subject to an environmental health violation notice. Yard parking not only impacts property aesthetics, it also has implications for the entire watershed district, creates pollution concerns and can damage grass and cause erosion.
Maintaining property standards is important to Richfield residents, so make sure to keep your cars parked in the driveway or on the street. Questions can be directed to the city's Environmental Health staff at (612) 861-9880.
