When will the ice rinks open?
It takes a week of well-below-freezing temperatures to flood Richfield's ice rinks and ensure ice that's thick and smooth enough for skating. After December's warm weather, Public Works only just begun flooding rinks this week. It is expected that the ice will be skate-able next week. Warming houses will remain closed until the rinks are ready. Follow the city's social media channels for updates.

Severe cold on the horizon
Very cold temperatures are forecasted over the next several days. If you are connected with an organization interested in providing people with respite from the cold, please contact Hennepin County's hotline.
In Richfield, the Augsburg Park Library is a designated warming location during regular business hours. Call the Hennepin Shelter Hotline with questions: 612-204-8200.

A reminder that Christmas tree pickup is in full-swing, with haulers collecting Christmas trees through January 19. The cost is $12.73 per tree and will be added to your bill. Residents do not need to have yard waste collection to use this service.
Please contact your hauler directly via phone or email to schedule collection or email garbageandrecycling@richfieldmn.gov. Trees should be left at the curb or alley for pick-up on your regular collection day. To ensure that your tree is picked up, do not wrap it in a bag and remove decorations such as wires, stands, ornaments and tinsel. Only natural, unpainted trees will be collected. Do not cut up your tree or put it in your yard waste cart.
Additionally, a warning about Elongate Hemlock Scale: Although not known to be in Minnesota at this time, this invasive pest can be found in Christmas trees grown in the Eastern United States. If you don't know where your tree was grown, make sure to dispose of it properly through curbside collection or yard waste drop-off sites. Do not leave your tree in your backyard or home compost pile.
