Fall Fun ahead this weekend
On Saturday, the community is invited to celebrate autumn during three, free, fun-filled events!
Great Pumpkin Giveaway: This annual event will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Fairwood Park (6700 Logan Avenue). Each household can receive a free pumpkin, enjoy refreshments, coloring, face-painting and enter to win door prizes.
Trunk-or-Treat: This beloved event is back for its fifth year! The event is sponsored by and held at Morris Nilson Funeral Chapel, (6527 Portland Avenue) from 3 to 6 p.m. Grab your costumes and candy buckets and come out to celebrate with the community!
Bark in the Park Halloween Social: Humans aren’t the only ones who love Halloween! Dress up your pup in your favorite canine costume and get tails wagging! The event includes refreshments and family activities, and will be held at the Roosevelt Dog Park (7700 Portland Avenue) from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Richfield Foundation grant application now open
The Richfield Foundation is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations in Richfield and surrounding communities for grants to support Successful Kids, Secure Families, and a Strong Community for Richfield residents.
The grants range from range from $500 to $2,000, are supported by funds raised by the annual Toast to Richfield event. Last year, approximately $20,000 was raised to support projects and award grants that benefit the community.
Applications are due Oct. 31, with awards announced in December.

Tonight: Domestic Violence panel
Tonight from 6 to 8 p.m., join the police department and community partners in an effort to prevent, report and heal from domestic violence. The presentation will be hosted at the Central Education Center (7145 Harriet Avenue) will be presented in English and Spanish.

This Weekend: Soft Landing events
This weekend provides two opportunities to learn about and help install 'soft landings' at Veterans Park. Join local experts and fellow community members to create soft landings beneath park trees.

Wed: Flashlight Storybook Trail
On Wednesday, October 18 from 5:30 to 8 p.m., take a self-guided flashlight walk along the storybook trail at Augsburg Park, near the playground. Wear your costume and read The Halloween Tree with your flashlight. The event may be cancelled due to inclement weather.

Dogs must be leashed
Recently, numerous reports have been received regarding unleashed dogs in the community.
Per Chapter 9 of Richfield City Code, a dog must be leashed in public spaces and in city parks, with the following exceptions:
- When inside the Richfield Dog Park at Roosevelt Park
- When on the owner's property
- When at heel and obedient to commands of the owner
- When in a vehicle
Richfield animal control calls are primarily handled by Community Service Officers (CSO).CSOs respond to animal control calls such as a dog at large, animal bites, injured animals and barking dogs. To report an animal issue such call Police dispatch at 612-861-9898 or Public Safety at 612-861-9800.

Tuesday: Nicollet Avenue Open House
The Nicollet Avenue Reconstruction project is being led by Hennepin County in partnership with the City of Richfield to improve conditions for all people using the Nicollet Avenue corridor for travel. This Hennepin County project aims to:
- Replace deteriorating pavement surfaces and walks
- Enhance connections to planned and existing routes and destinations
- Implement a dedicated bikeway
- Improve existing public utilities, intersection traffic control and transit stops
- Implement traffic calming and safety measures
The next Open House for the project will be held at the Community Center (7000 Nicollet Avenue) from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17. Project staff will be gathering input from the public on existing challenges and strengths of the current corridor to identify focus areas for design improvements. A virtual option for feedback is also available.

Rescheduled bike park opening draws a crowd
It was a great night at Taft Bike Park last night, complete with beautiful weather, excited bike partners, and hundreds of community members ready to ride. Follow the Taft Bike Park on Facebook for up-to-date news on trail conditions, weather-closures and more.

Roadwork Updates: 65th Street project continues
Earlier this month the soil retention system along the east leg of 65th Street and Lyndale Avenue was installed. Over the course of this week crews will finish up installing the stormwater box culvert and sanitary sewer along this stretch.
In the coming weeks, weather-permitting, concrete crews will begin pouring curb and gutter on the west end of the project, and work eastward. If the work stays on schedule, paving will be able to begin in mid-November. More information available at the link below.

In case you missed it: Drivers License for All law began October 1
On October 1, the Drivers License for All law went into effect, allowing undocumented Minnesotans the chance to apply for a drivers license.
Leading up to that deadline, Richfield celebrated the graduation of 24 participants who successfully completed 14 hours of Minnesota Driver’s Manual Class in the partnership with the Richfield Police Department, Joint Community Police Partnership, MIRA, Hennepin County Library and MIM.
A new class is currently underway.
