Over the summer, Richfield's engineering staff completed a self-evaluation of all city-owned pedestrian facilities in the public right-of-way to evaluate their compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This included evaluating sidewalks, pedestrian curb ramps, railroad crossings, and pedestrian crossing signals based on accepted criteria set by state and federal agencies.
The city evaluated the sidewalks, curb ramps and crossings based on an accessibility score and equity score. Those scores were weighted and results prioritized. The draft results were presented to the city council on Tuesday. A draft update to the city's ADA Transition Plan will be published this fall.
A huge thanks goes out to Richfield's engineering intern, Caleb, for all his hard work on this evaluation project during the summer.

Roadwork Updates: 65th Street
Due to unforeseen circumstances involving the installation of stormwater and sanitary sewer infrastructure, the roundabout at 65th Street and Lyndale Avenue is anticipated to be open by late November. Construction crews are currently installing a soil retention system on 65th Street which will resolve the current conflicts with the utility installation. Construction crews have been taking full advantage of their working hours, and will continue to work into the weekends to complete the project. The city apologizes for the inconvenience this closure may cause and appreciates everyone’s cooperation and patience.
Neighborhood meetings are held every two weeks on Thursdays at 4 p.m. The next meeting will be held on September 21. City staff will be by the northern driveway of Pizza Luce to talk with residents about the project.
