Fall program registration opens next week
Richfield Recreation's Fall Program Guide is now available online and has been mailed out to all Richfield residents. Registration for most programs opens Monday, August 21 at 9 a.m. for in-person or online registration. The guide covers programs and events from September through December.
New programs are coming to Richfield this fall, including: Tots Winter Play Dates, Toy Library Day, Board Game Night, Salsa Dancing and Raqs Sharqi. Many returning favorite programs will also open for registration, along with information on holiday-themed events like the Great Pumpkin Giveaway, Half-Haunted Halloween, Holiday Lights Parade and more.

Tonight: Unity in the Community
Come out for this annual back-to-school celebration for families in the Richfield community. The event will be held at the Veterans Park Band Shell, on Thursday, August 17 from 4 - 7 p.m. The evening will include activities, arts & crafts, a resource fair, performances, school supplies and ice cream!

Saturday: Galaxy Block Party
The 2nd annual Galaxy Block Party is happening outside of the Mixto Mural at Galaxy Foods on Saturday, August 19th from 6 - 8:30 p.m. Swing through with your friends and family to enjoy music, games, food, a car show and breakdancing performances. Hope to see you there!

The time has come! On Sunday, August 20 at 7 p.m., the Richfield pool will close for the 2023 summer season. Over the summer, more than 60 employees worked around the clock to keep the facility clean, safe and operational for the thousands of visitors that come to the pool each summer.
The weekend schedule includes regularly scheduled tot time, free swim and lap swim options. Consider swinging by to beat the heat and thank our staff in person.

Chime in: Nicollet Avenue Reconstruction project open house!
The Nicollet Avenue Reconstruction project is being led by Hennepin County in partnership with the City of Richfield to improve conditions for all people using the Nicollet Avenue corridor for travel. This Hennepin County project aims to:
- Replace deteriorating pavement surfaces and walks
- Enhance connections to planned and existing routes and destinations
- Implement a dedicated bikeway
- Improve existing public utilities, intersection traffic control and transit stops
- Implement traffic calming and safety measures
An Open House for the project will be held at Augsburg Park Library (7100 Nicollet Ave) from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22. Project staff will be gathering input from the public on existing challenges and strengths of the current corridor to identify focus areas for design improvements. A virtual option for feedback is also available.

Water exercise class enjoys the last days of summer outdoors
The Wet Work Out class wrapped up its summer session this week. The group was able to enjoy beautiful summer weather at the outdoor pool in August. Wet Work Out classes are held year-round, typically at the Richfield Middle School pool. If you are interested in trying any of our fitness classes, registration for fall classes begins next week.

Roadwork Updates: 35W closed this weekend (take 3)
Weather delays have interrupted previously scheduled closures of 35W the past two weekends. As of this writing, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is planning to close 35W northbound and southbound between Hwy 62 and 494, beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday through 5 a.m. on Monday.

In case you missed it....Velodrome proposal comes to Richfield
Last week, the City Council, Planning Commission and Housing and Redevelopment Authority heard a proposal from Minnesota Cycling Center who is interested in developing an indoor velodrome in the southeast corner of Richfield. The Star Tribune covered the item in a recent article.
