The EcoFair comes to Richfield, April 15
Come out and learn what you can do to live a more sustainable, earth-friendly life! Admission is free and all are welcome. Event will include door prizes and kids' activities. Exhibitors will showcase everything from electric vehicles and solar panels to composting, low-waste products, organic lawn care and more.
Speakers include:
- 10:30 am – Simple Ways to Reduce Plastic At Home, Barbara Wasmoen
- 11:30 a.m. – Create Habitat, Create Community: The Importance of Converting Your Lawn, Ava McKnight, Altlawns of Richfield and Bloomington
- 12:30 p.m. – Your Recycling & Composting Questions Answered, Rachel Lindholm, City of Richfield
- 1:30 p.m. – Welcome to the Electric Decade (Electric Vehicles), Alan Wernke, EZGoEV.com

HRC seeks nominations for Outstanding Citizen award
What do Santos Mejia, Rissa Pahl, Joyce Marrie and 'Miss Richfield, 1981' have in common? They've all been awarded the Gene and Mary Jacobsen Outstanding Citizen Award by the Richfield Human Rights Commission (HRC).
The HRC is now accepting nominations for the 2023 award. This annual award honors a family, group, organization, business or individual that lives or works in Richfield. The award is given to nominees that exemplify outstanding community service, a commitment to human rights and a commitment to making our community a better place for all. Nominations will be accepted through April 28.

Free job search assistance
Drop in from 2 - 4 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month to meet with a career navigator. Next date is April 13. Navigators can provide career counseling and assessments, résumé assistance, interview preparation and information on career certifications and training programs.

(Parents of) 4th Graders: Register for Police & Fire Safety Day
Registration is now open for Police & Fire Safety Day to be held on June 13 from 7:45 a.m.- 5:15 p.m. This is an event for Richfield children entering 4th grade in the fall. Space is limited to 64 participants and already half-full.
Participants will learn fire, bike, electrical and personal safety; basic first aid, and bullying prevention. The $35 registration fee includes lunch, snacks, T-shirt, prizes, and a pizza dinner for the participant and one parent.

RPD Badging and Awards Ceremony
Last week, Officers Derek Gjestson, Kevin Ballenger and Bryan Rosas were sworn-in as Richfield Police Officers and received their badges. Their families were invited to witness the swearing in, sharing congratulations, smiles and hugs.
In addition, several officers were honored with awards. Unanimously chosen by department sergeants, Officer Mario Leon was named the 2022 Officer of the Year for his commitment to excellence, teamwork, self-initiated field activity and traffic enforcement, which was a true asset to the police department and the city.
Officer Joe Carroll was awarded a Commendation for his response to the South Education Center (SEC) shooting and his efforts as first officer on the scene. In recognition of their outstanding efforts in response to the SEC shooting, several officers (Quanbeck, Gifford, Sheady, Anderson, Schultz, Johnson, Wagner, Schipp, Hotzler and Dox) also received a Letter of Recognition from the department.

In case you missed it....
Last Saturday, the Richfield Dance Company had their year end recital. More than 50 dancers and their families braved the snow to perform in front of a crowd of almost 300 people at the Gideon S. Ives Auditorium in Bloomington. Dance styles performed included jazz, tap, hip hop, ballet, and modern. The recital made for a strong finish to a great dance season for the Richfield Dance Company.
