Citizen Police Academy

Earlier this month, a group of extraordinary residents graduated from this year's Citizen Police Academy. We thank them for their time and participation! This year's academy covered a lot of topics in just six weeks: patrol procedures, traffic enforcement, investigations, DWI arrests, S.W.A.T., 911 communications, Hennepin County Crime Lab and more. On the last evening, attendees put what they’ve learned to action in both video and “live” scenarios. The course concluded with everyone receiving certificates, some RPD swag and cupcakes!

Volunteers needed this spring

As we thaw out of winter, consider giving back and helping your neighbors. Senior Community Services is recruiting volunteers to help local seniors with outdoor spring chores. They have flexible opportunities for individuals, families and groups. Volunteers are matched with local seniors in need of assistance, and can be scheduled at a date and time that best meets one's schedule. Set aside some time, and help out a neighbor!

Sign up for the Community Garden pilot project

Space is still available for the Community Garden pilot program at Veterans Park. Garden plots will be available from early May to mid-October. A few accessible, raised-table garden beds will also be available. Plot rental is $45 for the 2023
season.

Due to limited space, only Richfield residents are allowed to apply. A lottery system may be used if a large amount of registrations is received. 

Survey for transit users!

Metro Transit is beginning the Network Now project, which is a five-year plan to design transit service to best meet the needs of the region. They would like to hear from you about how to continue to invest in improving service as more resources are available. The first step is to gather feedback on values about transit. This information will help shape how they make decisions for the next steps of the project. 

Bilingual Fraud and Mental Health resources presentation

Earlier this month, a bilingual training was held to cover topics of concern: mental health resources and fraud protection. The training was developed in partnership with the Joint Community Police Partnership of Richfield, MIRA and the Hennepin County Attorney's office. The information was presented in Spanish and English. Note: Some of the presentations were conducted in Spanish. English-speaking viewers may use the closed-captions option in YouTube and select English-language in Settings to view those sections of the presentation.

Funding opportunity for mental health events!

Bloomington Public Health is seeking a vendor to facilitate a series of mental health pop-up events serving Bloomington, Edina and Richfield youth. The goal of the funds is to organize events to raise awareness about the importance of youth mental health and increase opportunities for community members to engage with one another.

Deadline for applications is 11 a.m. on April 6.

Success at our liquor stores = success for our parks.

And speaking of Richfield Liquor.... Congrats Bill Fillmore!

Last week, former Liquor Operations Manager, Bill Fillmore, received the Government Service Award from the Richfield Chamber of Commerce during their Circle of Excellence awards. Bill retired in 2022 after more than 41 years of service with the city.
