Celebrate Black History Month
On Tuesday, the Richfield City Council recognized February as Black History Month in Richfield. With recommendation from the Human Rights Commission, the council honored the achievements of African Americans who have shaped the history of the city, state and nation and to pay tribute to their struggles for freedom and equality.
Karole Kelly-Anstedt represented the Richfield Human Rights Commission, and added: "I want to encourage anyone in our city to reach out – because Black History Month isn’t just about the Rosa Parks’ of the world, they’re about the Coach Flucases’ at Richfield High School, and the Officer Woods’ of our police department. So, it’s your next-door neighbor, it’s the people in our community that help make us feel welcome, and acknowledge us as equals as people of color which hasn’t been that long of a history."
Listen or read the proclamation to learn more about the history of African American families in Richfield and the ways black residents have left their mark on Richfield. Visit the link below to get information on Black History Month events in the metro.

Residential water service line inventory to begin
Next week, Richfield Public Works is kicking off a water service line inventory to confirm that all water lines serving Richfield homes are copper. This initiative is required by new Federal Lead and Copper Rules from the US EPA. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: The City has not found ANY lead service lines in Richfield after completing the first 2,500 inspections nor does it believe there are any lead service lines within the city.
Over the next few months, the city will be mailing notices to households requesting their assistance with this effort. When you receive your mailer, please follow the simple instructions inside to complete the service line inventory.
Although original city building codes dating back to the early 1960’s required installation of copper service lines, the city still needs to confirm all lines to meet the new Federal requirements.
