In case you missed it.... a message from Police Chief, Jay Henthorne on the killing of Tyre Nichols
Issued Friday, January 27, 2023:
Today we saw body worn camera footage that recorded the death of Tyre Nichols at the hands of Memphis police officers. The actions of the officers were horrific, brutal, and indefensible. Their conduct left my department and me disgusted, outraged, and deeply saddened. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Nichols’ family, and anyone affected by this injustice.
The involved police officers have appropriately been fired, criminally charged, and arrested. There is no excuse for their actions. They have betrayed their oath of office, disgraced the law enforcement profession, and brought shame on the officers across the nation who work selflessly each day to protect their communities.
Other police leaders and I remain committed to ensuring our officers treat everyone with respect and dignity.
