The Richfield Recap - Dec. 22, 2022 |
|
Stay warm, Richfield
Whether you're at work or cozy at home, we hope that you are staying warm this week! After a snow emergency with 7 inches of snow, now is the time to stay indoors and out of the dangerous temperatures. Connect with your neighbors, monitor your water lines and let RPD know if you see someone outdoors who might need assistance.
If you or someone you know needs a place to get warm, visit the link below or call 844-803-8466 for a list of warming spaces & other resources in Hennepin County, including the Augsburg Park Library.
Richfield receives Silver-level, Bicycle Friendly Community award!

Last week, the League of American Bicyclists designated Richfield as a Silver-level Bicycle Friendly Community! The award recognizes Richfield for its commitment to creating transportation and recreational resources that benefit residents of all ages and abilities while encouraging healthier and more sustainable transportation choices. Richfield is 1 of 7 cities in Minnesota, and 1 of 112 cities nationwide, to have been awarded the Silver-level designation!
The City would like to recognize Richfield Public Schools and Bike Walk Richfield for their time and effort in pursuing this award and making Richfield a leading Bicycle Friendly Community!

Beware of frozen pipes!
Don’t let frozen water lines ruin your holidays! With temperatures forecasted to be well below zero over the coming days, the potential for frozen or burst water lines is high. Our utilities crew encourages residents to make sure there is ambient heat near where your water service line enters your basement or well room. Also, consider keeping a door open or light on near your water meter to ensure that you’re not frozen-out. Contact Richfield Public Works at 612-861-9170 if you need help identifying where the water service enters your home or with any questions!

Watch last month's Demographic Disparity Analysis community meeting
In 2022, the Richfield Police Department hired a subject-matter expert, Police Strategies LLC, to complete a thorough analysis of Richfield police data including calls for service, arrests, and use of force. This report examined demographic disparities in victims and offenders reported to the Richfield Police Department, as well as disparities in arrests and uses of force by Richfield police officers.
The findings were presented to the City Council on November 16, and to the Community on November 17. The full analysis, presentation and meeting recordings are now available online.
