RPD awarded for distracted driving vehicle
One of the city’s values is to ‘Lead the Way’ with innovation. Last week, members of the Richfield Police department were honored for their innovative thinking at Minnesota's Towards Zero Deaths conference. The Traffic Safety Innovation award was given in recognition of Richfield’s distracted driving truck, which was originally proposed by Sergeant Matt Steen. The distracted driving truck has bigger tires, a raised frame and tinted windows to improve the vantage point for the officers enforcing distracted driving laws. The truck is in use on Richfield streets and often on loan throughout the metro. Thank you to Sergeant Steen and all of RPD for their work to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries.
