Upcoming tree planting events at Richfield parks
Richfield Recreation invites residents to participate in two fall tree plantings at Donaldson and Christian Parks. These events are done in partnership with Tree Trust. These parks were impacted particularly hard by Emerald Ash Borer over the past years, and planting replacement trees will help establish a tree canopy for the future.

What's going on at Bumper to Bumper?
Several years ago, the city’s Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) purchased the former Bumper to Bumper auto parts store at 6501 Penn. After financing fell through for the housing development identified for the site, the HRA decided to move forward with the demolition of the buildings. The buildings came down the final week of August and the site work will be completed in September. The HRA will be seeking new development proposals for the site in 2023.

 Curious about 65th Street?
Residents are encouraged to attend weekly “on the corner” meetings to get updates on the 65th Street Reconstruction project from city staff and the contractor. At the meeting residents are encouraged to ask questions about the project, voice any concerns and learn about anticipated work schedule and impacts. These meetings will be held weekly while construction is occurring.
The next community update will be held TODAY, September 1, at 4 p.m. at the north end of Pizza Lucé parking lot.
Future meetings will be held on September 8, at 4 p.m. at the Blaisdell Cul-de-sac, and on September 15 at 4 p.m. at the north end of the Pizza Lucé parking lot.

 Recycle Smart!
At some point, we’ve all probably put something in our recycling cart that we weren’t sure was actually recyclable. The best thing you can do to support recycling is to ONLY recycle the items accepted in your program. Items that are important to leave out of your recycling cart include:
- Plastic bags and large plastic items
- Random metal items, including propane tanks
- Single-use plastic utensils and straws, paper plates, cups, takeout containers
- Cords and string lights
- Electronics and batteries

Exciting news for local Section 8 program
This week the federal Housing Choice Voucher Program awarded funding for five new housing vouchers to the city's Section 8 program. It’s extremely rare for a small city like Richfield to be awarded new vouchers. The program makes housing more affordable for people with lower incomes by assisting with rent payments. The rental assistance team is already sending out letters to families on our waiting list to let them know the good news. It can take many years for people to get on a waiting list, and even more years to make their way to the top of the list and actually receive housing assistance.

In case you missed it....
Beginning tomorrow, free mail order COVID-19 test kits will become UNAVAILABLE from the federal government. The federal government is pausing the program due to a lack of funding from Congress. Federal test kit orders are accepted through September 1 at special.usps.com/testkits. If you haven’t already done so, you may also order free test kits from the Minnesota Department of Health's mail order program at sayyeshometest.org, while supplies last.
