Tree removal begins to combat EAB
If you have driven, walked or rode your bike by Donaldson Park in the past few months, you may have noticed something out of place.
Forty-five of the park’s trees have been marked with a florescent orange circle on their trunks, indicating that beginning next week they will be removed. Their removal is necessary, because they are all ravaged with emerald ash borer (EAB).
Emerald ash borer is an invasive insect that has killed millions of ash trees throughout the eastern half of the U.S. and southeastern Canada. Richfield is home to more than 2,000 publicly-maintained ash trees, and an estimated 12,000 privately owned ash trees.
Tree removal at Donaldson Park will begin on Monday and is expected to last one week.

Local and regional road work continues
Road projects continue on this summer, creating some delays and detours in and around Richfield.
- The southbound lanes and exits of Hwy 77 continue to be closed for resurfacing. The closure is expected to last through July 26, at which point the northbound lanes will begin their three week closure.
- On July 13, a section of southbound Richfield Parkway will be briefly closed at 63rd Street for utility and pavement patching work. The detour for the closure is Bloomington Avenue to 66th Street. Access to Richfield Commons shopping area will remain open. Northbound Richfield Parkway will also remain open.
- Beginning next week, 65th Street will be closed in both directions between Lyndale Avenue and Grand Avenue, for up to 5 days. Traffic wishing to use 65th Street in this area should utilize 66th Street instead.

Lil Sparklers a huge success
Last week, hundreds of people stopped by Veterans Park to participate in the Lil Sparkler event to kick off the holiday weekend. The event included food trucks, an interactive large vehicle display, the movie Encanto and a kids dance.
Thank you to the Richfield VFW Post #5555 and the Knights of Columbus for handing out flags at the event. Also, a big thank you to the Richfield Target store and their employees for volunteering to hand out fun games to the kids.

In case you missed it....
Last weekend, the community came together to mourn the loss of Jonathan O'Shaughnessy, who was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting five years ago.
The family and friends of Jonathan gathered at the intersection of 64th Street and 4th Avenue to remember Jonathan, and to continue to ask the public for help in solving his murder.
