Richfield officer wins Life Saver award from state police chiefs’ organization
There is a good reason police are labeled first responders; they have the ability to make sure a challenging situation ends with a positive outcome. And, that is exactly what someone in trouble needs when facing a life or death circumstances.
That is exactly where Richfield police officer Dylan Schultz found himself on the January 18, 2021.
On that evening, Schulz and other officers from the Richfield Police Department (RPD) responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex in the city.

Hocky Niñas founder named as nominee for NHL Community Hero Award
Vote now! Meredith Lang, founder of Hockey Niñas, has been nominated for the prestigious NHL Willie Oree Award. The award is given to an individual who betters their community through the sport of hockey.
Lang has made a large impact in Richfield by establishing the Hockey Niñas girls hockey team, aimed at inviting more young women of color into the sport of hockey. The team is based out of the Richfield Ice Arena.
If she wins, Lang will be the first woman to receive the award, which comes with a $25,000 grand prize charitable donation.

Save the Date: Annual Egg Scramble to be held April 16
Join your neighbors on April 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the 10th annual Egg Scramble at the Veteran's Park Bandshell.
This event, for children ages 11 and under, offers some egg-citing fun at an old-fashion egg hunt. Mr. and Mrs. Bunny will also be present for family photos. In addition, there will be a penny carnival with silly games, refreshments and a resource fair promoting various childcare and summer program opportunities. Please join us!

Experience MSP open house
On April 12, residents are invited to attend a virtual open house to learn more about Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and how the Metropolitan Airports Commission is planning for its future.
Prior to the open house, you are invited to view some recorded presentations to get more information about the long-term planning process. The open house will be held virtually from 4:30 p.m. - 6 p.m. on April 12.

Free home weatherization classes, virtual and in-person
This spring and summer, a Green Partners grant from Hennepin County is supporting the Rethos Education program in hosting six old-home weatherization and energy efficiency workshops. These classes will provide knowledge on accessible do-it-yourself home repairs and maintenance techniques aimed at creating a more energy efficient home.
The next virtual workshop, Maximizing Window Energy Efficiency, will be held on April 14.

Today: Tornado siren testing as part of Severe Weather Week
Today, at 1:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m., Richfield's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will be out visually inspecting the city's seven severe weather sirens as part of Tornado Drill Day and Severe Weather Week.
Severe Weather Week is designed to refresh, remind and educate everyone about the seasonal threats from severe weather and how to avoid them. It's also a great time to make and practice your emergency plan and build or refresh your emergency preparedness kit.

Last night, the Richfield Fire Department held its badging ceremony and annual recognition event. Eight firefighters received their new badges. We learned a lot about the hard work of our firefighters, but our favorite "fun fact" of the evening was that firefighter Jake Rehberger responded to the most call in 2021. Any guesses how many calls he went on? 866 calls!!
