The opening of the individual income tax season is tomorrow. Several preparers have asked if a refund can be split between a future estimated payment and direct deposit into a bank account.
If you are preparing a paper or electronic return and the taxpayer wants to split their refund with a portion going to estimated payments and a portion direct deposited into a bank account you can do this. You will be asked to identify:
- the dollar amount the taxpayer wants allocated to the estimated payment
- the dollar amount they want directly deposited into their bank account
Once the selection has been made, just enter the taxpayer's bank routing number and account number.
We appreciate the work that you do helping taxpayers complete their returns. We will continue to send out tax tips for preparers as the filing season progresses. If there are other questions you have about the filing season please e-mail us at dorweb.comm@state.mn.us.
