Minnesota Senate confirms Myron Frans as Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Revenue
St. Paul, Minn. – In a vote today in the Minnesota Senate, Myron Frans was confirmed as Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Revenue.
Appointed by Governor Mark Dayton in January 2011, Commissioner Frans has steered the department’s mission of promoting voluntary compliance, helping to ensure everyone voluntarily reports and pays the right amount of tax: no more, no less.
“Serving the state of Minnesota as commissioner of the department of revenue the last two years has been a privilege,” said Commissioner Frans. “I am honored by today’s confirmation by the Senate and I am proud of the hard work and dedication of deputies, assistant commissioners, directors, and staff of the entire revenue department.”
Under Commissioner Frans’ guidance, the department has received two Governor’s Continuous Improvement Awards for its work in making electronic filing easier for business taxpayers and implementing electronic check processing. Both programs save the state money.
Prior to his service at the Revenue Department, Commissioner Frans served as a tax attorney in private practice for 27 years, most recently as a senior tax partner at the law firm of Faegre Baker Daniels LLP in Minneapolis. Before joining Faegre Baker Daniels, he was a tax partner at Gray Plant Mooty Mooty & Bennett, PA, also in Minneapolis. Frans began his tax practice in 1983 with the firm of Miller & Chevalier, in Washington, DC.
