The Minnesota Department of Revenue has a new grant opportunity for Fiscal Year 2024-2025!
In addition to our current Grant to Provide Volunteer Taxpayer Assistance Services, we will have a new Tax Credit Outreach Grant.
This new grant will support our efforts to:
- Increase multilingual volunteers at free tax preparation sites throughout Minnesota
- Expand the availability of free tax preparation services
- Increase awareness and claims of eligible tax credits
“These volunteer tax assistance sites play an integral role in helping Minnesotans, including those in diverse and underserved communities, take full advantage of the tax credits and benefits that are available to them,” said Revenue Commissioner Paul Marquart. “The grants the state provides to these organizations are investments into communities in all corners of the state, and I encourage all qualifying nonprofits to take advantage of the opportunity and apply.”
We will accept Fiscal Year 2024-2025 grant applications from June 30 to July 31, 2023.
What is the Tax Credit Outreach Grant?
This new grant offers $2,000,000 in grant funds to eligible nonprofit organizations or federally recognized Indian Tribes.
Funds will be available to organizations who:
- Publicize and promote the availability of eligible credits to taxpayers who likely qualify for them. These credits include, but are not limited to:
- Child Tax Credit
- Renter’s Income Tax Credit
- Working Family Credit
- Property Tax Refund
- Increase awareness of eligible credits to demographic groups or geographic regions that historically have low rates of claiming eligible credits.
- Create targeted communication around eligible credits, including advertisements and digital content (such as social media, videos, direct mailings, and print advertisements). This includes the cost of translating these materials.
- Pay salaries to employees who provide outreach and communication on eligible credits.
- Collaborate with other organizations to increase promotion of eligible credits across Minnesota.
