The Sales and Use Tax Division of the Minnesota Department of Revenue is starting a Restaurant Outreach Program.
What is the Restaurant Outreach Program?
The Restaurant Outreach Program is designed to provide restaurants with the education and resources necessary to achieve long-term voluntary compliance. We will contact restaurant owners to discuss how Sales and Use Tax applies to their restaurant. The discussion is informational; we will not review records or issue an audit report.
The Restaurant Outreach Program goals are to:
- Discuss taxable sales, taxable purchases, tax rates, local taxes, and special taxes
- Review how to file Sales and Use Tax returns using e-Services
- Provide educational resources
- Answer questions
- Update any business registration information
Who is selected for the program?
We will select small independent restaurants for the program. Large restaurants, restaurant chains, and businesses audited within the past four years are not part of the program.
How will I know if I was selected for the program?
We will notify restaurants selected for the program by mail. Discussions will take place through phone calls and we may provide additional information through email.
