When filing for the Homestead Credit Refund (for Homeowners), use your clients’ Statement of Property Taxes Payable in 2021. Clients typically receive this statement in March. Do not use the Proposed Notice of Property Tax Changes sent last November.
Is filing the homestead credit different for mobile home owners?
Yes. Mobile home owners typically receive their property tax statement in July. Your clients should receive both a 2020 Certificate of Rent Paid for lot rent and the 2021 Statement of Property Taxes Payable before filing a 2020 Form M1PR, Homestead Credit Refund (for Homeowners) and Renter’s Property Tax Refund. Do not file separate Forms M1PR for each document.
When can I electronically file the Homestead Credit Refund?
You can e-file as early as March 15. If you e-file before March 15, it will be rejected.
How can my clients check their Homestead Credit Refund status?
They can use our Where's My Refund? system after July 1.
