Nat Sherman Cigarettes Manufactured by Phillip Morris USA, Inc.

Due to the transition of Nat Sherman cigarettes into the Phillip Morris USA, Inc. family of cigarette brands, beginning August 12, 2020, Phillip Morris USA, Inc. will be manufacturing all Nat Sherman cigarettes.

Phillip Morris USA, Inc. will include those Nat Sherman brand cigarettes in the calculation of their tobacco settlement payments to the State of Minnesota. Minnesota distributors will not have to pay the Minnesota fee in lieu of settlement on these cigarettes.

Previously, Nat Sherman brand cigarettes were considered non-settlement cigarettes under Minnesota law and therefore subject to the Minnesota fee in lieu of settlement. Minnesota licensed cigarette distributors still must pay the Minnesota fee-in-lieu of settlement amount on all Nat Sherman cigarettes purchased before August 12, 2020.

This change applies to the following cigarette brands:

  • Nat's Blue King
  • Nat's King
  • Nat's Menthol King
  • Nat's Yellow King

These changes to the fee in lieu of settlement on the Nat Sherman brands should first be reflected on August 2020 Cigarette Excise Tax returns, which are due September 18, 2020.
