Minnesota Department of Revenue

The Minnesota tax law enacted on May 30, 2019, may have changed the amount of your taxes for tax year 2019. The Minnesota Department of Revenue updated the Minnesota Withholding Tax Tables for tax year 2019. We also updated our Withholding Tax Calculator to reflect the tax table changes.

What has changed for 2019?

We updated our 2019 Withholding Tax Tables and calculator to reflect Minnesota law, including changes to the standard deduction, exemptions, and rates for certain taxpayers.

If your employees have Minnesota tax withheld from their wages, they may see a change in the amount of their paycheck. We suggest that employees complete a new Form W-4MN, Minnesota Employee Withholding Allowance/Exemption Certificate, to correctly determine their Minnesota withholding allowances.

Requirements for submitting Forms W-4MN have not changed.

What do I need to do?

If you use tax software, make sure you have the latest updates.

If you do not use tax software, use our 2019 Minnesota withholding tax tables or our calculator to determine withholding on payments.

When will the department release 2020 withholding tax materials?

We will release 2020 forms, instructions, and tax tables by the end of January, 2020. We will send an email when they are available.
