2015 Tax Credit Expiring Soon for Military Members

The Minnesota Department of Revenue reminds military members to take advantage of the 2015 Credit for Military Service in a Combat Zone. This credit expires October 15, 2019, for most qualifying military members. You may qualify for $120 per month or partial month served.
Do I qualify for this credit?
You qualify if all of the following are true:
- You were a Minnesota resident during your months of service
- You served in a combat zone or qualified hazardous duty area during 2015
- You received combat pay that is exempt from federal and Minnesota income tax

How do I claim the credit?
Send us a completed 2015 Form M99, Credit for Military Service in a Combat Zone, postmarked by October 15, 2019. Include the following documents:
- For active duty members: A copy of your Leave and Earnings Statement for each month of qualifying service
- For National Guard, reservists, and retired or discharged active duty members: A copy of your Form DD-214 for each period of qualifying service
How do I claim this credit for other years?
You may claim this credit for tax years 2016, 2017, and 2018 if you qualify. File Form M99 for the appropriate year and include the required documents.
