Minnesota Department of Revenue launches new website

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Revenue announced today the launch of their new website, www.revenue.state.mn.us, which focuses on the user experience by improving navigation tools and prioritizing top tasks for customers.

“Our new website will be an improved tool for our customers to ensure they have the information they need to file, pay, and receive the right amount of tax or refund according to Minnesota’s tax code,” said Revenue Commissioner Cynthia Bauerly. “We’re grateful to our many customers who provided feedback through usability testing and with our beta version to ensure this new website meets our customers’ needs.”

The new website improves on the department’s previous site that was launched in the spring 2012. Customers will see improvements in many areas of the new website. Features include:

Task-oriented planning. The new site focuses on tasks that our customers come to our website to complete. Leading with these top tasks -- finding forms and instructions, filing a return, making a payment, and tracking a refund -- will allow users to easily access the information to complete their tasks so they can get on with their day.

Improved navigation. The site guides users to information relevant to their needs. Each section has a top tasks, audience, and resources menu where users can easily get to the relevant information they need quickly.

Responsive design. Unlike the old site, the new website will be viewable and usable on any sized device – from desktop computers to smart phones.

Input from users. The department used feedback from users previewing the beta site in January and from users doing in-person usability testing this spring. This feedback was incorporated into the new site to make it more user-friendly and tailored to our customers’ needs.

NOTE: While the website homepage URL is unchanged, other pages on the new site have different URL addresses so users with bookmarks to the old site will need to update their bookmarks.
