Here are ways you can avoid delays in processing your clients’ returns:

  • Enter client and dependent names as they appear on Social Security cards.
  • Double-check bank routing and account numbers used on tax forms.
  • Complete each form and carry totals to the correct lines.
  • Do not staple or tape anything to your return. You may use a paperclip.
  • File returns by the due date.

Use valid USPS address formatting

We match the address on a return with the USPS address database. If the address does not match exactly, we manually review it for accuracy.

To help avoid these delays:

  • Verify the house number and street name spelling.
  • Use all capital letters.
  • Enter the apartment or unit number in the correct field if your software allows. Do not enter the apartment or unit number as part of the street name.
  • Use correct abbreviations for street prefixes and suffixes. See the tables below for common Minnesota abbreviations.
