New Local Taxes

The following local sales and use taxes will start on January 1, 2019. Click the links for information on each local tax.

• Dodge County Transit Sales and Use Tax
• Goodhue County Transit Sales and Use Tax
• Sherburne County Transit Sales and Use Tax

Registering for the new local taxes

If your business is physically located in any of the above counties, the Minnesota Department of Revenue will register you for the local tax and send you a notification letter.

If your business is not physically located in the counties but your business makes taxable retail sales into those counties, you will need to register for that local tax. To register in e-Services, click the link for the tax you need to register for from the list above and follow the instructions listed on that page.

The Minnesota Department of Revenue is offering a webinar for Minnesota sellers who are impacted by the recent South Dakota v. Wayfair decision. Wayfair Impacts for Minnesota Sellers - Webinar is on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. (CST).

We will cover sourcing local sales taxes, making sales on a marketplace, and give guidance on how to handle sales made into other states. In addition, we will provide instructions on registering and filing for Minnesota sales and use tax, and give valuable resources to help you meet your Minnesota sales and use tax filing requirements.
