Welcome to the 2016 forms development season!

Here are a few things to note:

Updated Guidelines Posted
We have updated the software provider guidelines for electronic filing and creating substitute forms. Click here to go to our updated guidelines.

Voucher Specifications
Starting this tax season, we are no longer providing specifications for creating payment vouchers. Instead, direct taxpayers and tax preparers to our Payment Voucher System.

This change:

  • Ensures the most current vouchers are used.
  • Reduces work for providers.
  • Allows businesses to log in and save information using the voucher system.
  • Promotes electronic payments within software products.

For more information, see our Voucher Specifications page.

Voter Registration
This year, the Minnesota legislature passed a law mandating that state forms provide a link to the voter registration site.  For details, see our Voter Registration Requirements.

Tax Preparer and Software Provider Conference Calls
We will hold conference calls for tax preparers and software providers on Wednesday, September 21 to review changes and address any concerns you may have for the upcoming filing season. The call for tax preparers will be from 9:30am – 10:30am (CDT), and the call for software providers will be from 11:00am – 12:00pm (CDT).

No Special Session
At this point in time, the tax bill that was under consideration at the end of the 2016 session is not moving forward. We will continue to monitor discussion around that bill and any other tax proposals that may be picked up for the 2017 Legislative Session and keep you informed as we know more.
