For your customers: yard waste and pumpkin drop-off sites
The tipping fee at the R&E Center will be $142 per ton in 2026. A formal notice was mailed to haulers in September. The adjustment supports ongoing maintenance and improvements to R&E’s waste processing operations.
In 2024, the facility processed nearly 400,000 tons of waste, diverting 85% from landfills. The refuse-derived fuel produced and sent to Xcel Energy generated enough electricity to power 12,787 homes for a year and reduced emissions by 99,893 metric tons of carbon dioxide—equivalent to removing 22,368 gas-powered cars from the road.
These results demonstrate the effectiveness of R&E’s processing system and the important role haulers play in recovering valuable resources.

Two transfer stations serving Ramsey and Washington counties are being equipped with food scrap bag sortation technology to support the expansion of the Food Scraps Pickup Program to all residents.
Walters broke ground on their site expansion on September 23, 2025, with work at the WM transfer station to follow. Once these projects are complete, all waste from Ramsey and Washington County residents and businesses currently taken to Dem-Con or Republic transfer stations will instead need to be delivered to Walters or WM.
Both scales at the R&E Center will be fully replaced in early spring. The existing metal scales, installed in 2014 and 2016, will be upgraded to durable concrete scales designed to last 15–18 years. The replacement work is expected to take about one week. More information, including timing and potential impacts, will be shared in the next newsletter.
