Food Scraps Pickup Program updates

Program expansion

As of April 1, 2024, the Food Scraps Pickup Program is now available in the following communities:

Cottage Grove
Grey Cloud Island
Landfall
Maplewood
Newport
North Saint Paul
Oakdale
St. Paul Park
Woodbury

Residents can sign up to participate and receive a free supply of compostable bags designed for the program. These food scrap bags, once filled, will be collected in the same trash cart or dumpster as regular trash. Once hauled and delivered to the R&E Center, advanced AI sorting technology will separate the bags for composting. Residents in these cities can get started today by visiting FoodScrapsPickup.com or calling 651-661-9393.

Unloading residential waste from eligible cities at the R&E Center

With the Food Scraps Pickup Program rollout underway, all waste haulers servicing residential and apartment complexes in eligible cities should use door "B" for unloading. New signage has been put in place to clearly mark the designated route.

County food scraps drop-off sites will remain open

As we roll out the Food Scraps Pickup Program, we want to remind haulers that the existing food scraps drop-off sites in both Ramsey and Washington counties continue to operate. This service continuity ensures that all residents have access to food scrap recycling options, regardless of their current eligibility for the program.

R&E Center Tours

Public tours of the R&E Center are available free of charge, providing visitors with an inside look into the facility's waste management process. Tours highlight how the facility operates, how waste is managed in the East Metro and how to better reduce, reuse and recycle. Visit RecyclingAndEnergy.org/Tours to learn more.

The county attorneys provide legal services and support to Ramsey/Washington Recycling & Energy.

Routine maintenance at the R&E Center

As part of the facility’s routine maintenance schedule, every three years we complete a rebuild of our disc screens which are part of our waste processing machinery.
