Choose your adventure as a Recycling Ambassador

Looking to make a positive impact in your community? Interested in learning more about recycling and solid waste? Consider becoming a Ramsey County Recycling Ambassador.

Recycling Ambassadors take a six-week training program to learn about environmental health, waste systems and recycling. Registration for the spring training session is open until March 12, 2026.

Limited time: Free mattress, box spring and metal bed frame recycling

Say goodbye to that old bed for free. Between March 3 and April 30 only, Ramsey County residents can bring a maximum of four mattresses and box springs total and a maximum of four metal bed frames to the Ramsey County Environmental Center at no cost. Second Chance Recycling in Minneapolis will recycle the mattresses and box springs and either reuse or recycle the metal bed frames.

Please register in advance for a drop-off date and time so staff can plan accordingly.

Practice sustainability right in your backyard. The Recycling Association of Minnesota is selling compost bins and rain barrels this spring. Ramsey County residents can receive a $20 discount off compost bins only. The compost bins and rain barrels are made from 100% recycled materials.

Frogtown Green closes and new Public Health trusted messenger steps in

After 16 years of service, Frogtown Green closed on Dec. 30, 2025. The Saint Paul Ramsey County-Public Health trusted messenger ended its initiative to make way for another generation of environmental advocates.

Frogtown Green's successors include Human Nature, a new business owned by two former Frogtown Green staffers, Chris Stevens and Xiem Vuong (pictured). Human Nature works to support sustainable, climate-resilient neighborhoods in collaboration with community-based organizations, local government and local businesses. The organization will continue on as a Public Health’s trusted messenger, partnering specifically with the Environmental Health and Climate Action teams to engage residents in environmental initiatives.
